Frequently Asked Questions


When is the Pager shipping?
Later this year.

The Pager has been in development for years and is currently in mass production. Four prototype phases have been successful. Bootloader and update firmware have been released to manufacturing. Wireless stress testing has completed with positive results. The first batch of units are currently in our warehouse. Regulatory certifications are underway.

Firmware 1.0 finalisation is in progress, incorporating interface tweaks based on usability testing and early feedback. Thereafter a steady stream of firmware updates with feature releases are planned. The project is backed by a full-time, in house, US-based software engineering team, along with third party Mod manufacturers and payload developers.

How does it compare to other handhelds?
Unlike devices limited to fixed firmware, the WiFi Pineapple® Pager runs Linux — unlocking the full potential of user-installed apps, real scripting languages like Bash and Python, and the next-gen suite of WiFi Pineapple tools with DuckyScript™ powered payloads.

What's the difference between it and the Mark VII?
The Mark VII and Pager take different approaches to WiFi pentesting. The Mark VII features a browser-based interface, ideal for graphical workflows and detailed configuration. It supports Rogue AP attacks for Open, WPA-PSK, and WPA Enterprise networks, and integrates with Cloud C² for remote access and management.

The WiFi Pineapple Pager, on the other hand, is built for portability and automation. It features a menu-driven interface and runs payloads written in Bash and DuckyScript™, perfect for hands-free, event-driven attacks.

Will the Mark VII and Enterprise be getting updates?
Yes. Optimisations realised in the development of UI 3.0 and PineAP v8 will be ported to the Mark VII and Enterprise platforms. Features, as applicable by hardware, will find their way into the 7th generation devices. Payloads will be exclusive to the Pager due to their on-device interactive nature.

What are Alerts and Alert Payloads?
The Alerting engine is a component of PineAP, which is always passively monitoring the airspace.

When a designated WiFi activity of interest occurs, an assigned Alert Payload kicks off — notifying you with vibrations, ringtones and on-screen activity.

Does it have a web interface?
No. The only web interface is for initial setup.

Can I use it plugged into a computer?
Yes. The USB-C port provides both charging, and an integrated USB Ethernet interface.

Most computers will receive an IP address from the Pager's DHCP server.

Once on the Pager's network, you can SSH into the device for root access.

Does it work with Cloud C²?
No. Currently Cloud C² integration is not planned for development. For those seeking remote access capabilities for long-term deployments, consider the Mark VII or Enterprise.

Does it work with Payload Studio?
Yes. DuckyScript™ and Bash for the Pager will be supported by Payload Studio v1.5 for both Community and Pro editions.

What are hardware Mods?
Hardware Mods are peripherals that extend the Pager's functionality by interfacing over the standard USB interface and may be controlled by payloads and common Linux utilities. Examples include GPS modules, Ethernet adapters, or additional radios. Hak5 works with prominent community members to develop conforming Mods, utilizing this standard interface.

Does it do cellular?
No. The Pager's integrated radios only operate on ISM bands. However, a separately licensed LTE Mod will be available — limited to standard IP connectivity.

Does it do meshtastic®?
An intrepid hacker is currently working on a USB Mod, and we expect interest in future M-PWRD Mods.
